FAQs
Why should I leave a gift in my Will to RSPCA?
The care of one in three animals at RSPCA is made possible by thoughtful people like you leaving a gift in their Will. A gift in your Will helps us continue our lifesaving work for animals in need. It’s also a meaningful way to leave a lasting legacy and make a difference for generations to come.
How do I write my Will?
There are many ways to write a legal Will, including:
- Solicitor or Lawyer
- Public Trustee
- Online Will writing platforms (e.g. Safewill, Willed and Gathered Here)
- Will Kit
Our recommendation, especially for complex estates, would be to engage a lawyer or solicitor to ensure your wishes are fulfilled.
Do I need a large estate to leave a gift?
Not at all. Every gift, big or small, contributes to our mission. Even a small percent of your estate can have a significant impact on the lives of animals.
What types of gifts can I leave?
Residual Gift:
A residual gift is the most effective way to support animals. After you have provided for your loved ones, the whole or a percentage of the residual (remainder) of your estate can be left to RSPCA.
Percentage Gift:
Leaving a percentage of your total estate allows your gift to maintain or maximise its value over time.
Specific Gift:
A fixed sum of money or assets including property, investments or shares.
Do I need to tell RSPCA if I’ve included a gift in my Will?
It’s not required, but letting us know helps us express our gratitude and plan for the future. It also ensures your wishes are understood. If you have left a gift, simply call 1800 777 223 to let us know.
How do I include a gift to RSPCA in my Will?
You can include a gift when writing a new Will or by updating your existing Will. It’s best to consult with a solicitor or lawyer to ensure your wishes are clear.
What if I already have a Will?
You can update your Will at any time and RSPCA can provide you with suggested wording to share with your solicitor or lawyer. We always recommend seeking independent legal advice.
Can I still provide for my family and leave a gift?
Absolutely. We encourage you to prioritise your loved ones and then consider leaving a portion of your estate to RSPCA to help animals in need.
What about my pets?
Trusted family or friends who are willing and able to take on the responsibility of your animals are always the best option. But if that choice is not available to you, RSPCA can help. Our Home Ever After program helps you put plans in place for your animal's future and provides peace of mind that your pets will be found loving, new homes by RSPCA in the event of your death. Home Ever After is a free service we provide to people who leave a gift in their Will to RSPCA.
How will my gift be acknowledged?
We’re incredibly grateful for your generosity. By informing us of your gift, we can thank you personally and keep you updated on how your legacy will make a difference. There are many ways the RSPCA acknowledges gifts in Wills from our generous supporters. If you have specific wishes for how you want your bequest acknowledged, contact your local RSPCA.
